Bread Upma

Bread upma is an easy to make a recipe for breakfast or something that you can try for your kid’s school tiffin. People in the south tends to make it more, and now it is famous almost everywhere in the country.

Ingredients
  

  • 5-6 slices bread
  • 2-3 tbsp Edible Oil
  • 1 tsp mustard Oil
  • pinch Asafoetida
  • 1 tsp Urad Dal
  • 2 chopped Green chilies
  • 1 tsp Grated ginger
  • 5-6 curry leaves
  • 1 large Onions
  • 2 medium Tomatoes
  • as required Salt
  • 1/2 tsp Red chili Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 1 tsp Garam masala powder
  • Handful Chopped Coriander leaves
  • 2 tbsp juice Lemon

Instructions
 

  • Take 5-6 slices of bread and cut it into small pieces, do not worry about shape and size. And keep it aside.
  • Now, in a pan or a kadhai, heat some oil up. Add in mustard seeds, curry leaves, asafoetida and urad dal. Mix everything for a while and 5 minutes later add chopped onion.
  • Once onions are translucent, throw in the chopped tomatoes and mix well. Add some salt so that the tomatoes start to cook faster.
  • Now, add all the other masalas into the kadhai and mix well. Pour some water if you need to. Do not burn the masala. Cook it for about five more minutes.
  • Now add the chopped bread pieces and mix everything very well. Sprinkle some water here and mix again.
  • Add some chopped coriander and squeeze a lemon.

A delicious breakfast, Bread Upma is a quick and easy way to start the day. You can use any type of bread, leftover or fresh. You can also use sev, an Indian chickpea flour noodle, as a substitute for bread. To go along with your upma, serve it with chai and green chutney, or try adding some spicy ketchup. In fact, it can be served with just about anything you want.
