Dal fry

So today I am going to share dal fry recipe with you, which is boiled lentil cooked with typical Indian onion-tomato masala and garnished with chopped coriander.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups Arhar ki Dal
  • 2 Chopped Onions
  • 2 chopped Tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp Edible Oil
  • 2 chopped Green chilies
  • 2 broken Dried Red chilies
  • 1 tbsp Ginger paste
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • pinch Asafoetida
  • sa required Salt
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Red chili Powder
  • 1 tsp Coriander Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Garam masala powder
  • 1/2 tsp kasuri methi
  • 2 tbsp Lemon
  • handful Chopped Coriander leaves

Instructions
 

  • Take 2 cups of lentil dal and wash it thoroughly in the clean water, and soak it for about 1 hour or so.
  • Then Take a pressure cooker and put in the soaked dal and 4 cups of water. Add in 1 tsp of turmeric powder, salt as required and give it a nice mix.
  • Cover the cooker and put on the flame. Cook the dal for about 10 minutes or 2-3 whistles.
  • Check if it needs more cooking or it not then keep it aside in the pressure cooker only.
  • Now take a deep pan, heat on high flame and add some edible oil in it.
  • Add in 1 tsp of cumin seeds and a pinch of hing or asafoetida and give it a mix.
  • Chop one large onion and two medium tomatoes, two green chilies.
  • Now throw in the chopped onions and give it mix for about 2-3 minutes.
  • Throw in the chopped tomatoes and mix it again for a while. Add in some salt, red chili powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder and toss everything well.
  • Add in some water and let it cook for about 5-10 minutes.
  • Now take this masala and put it all in the cooked dal and mix it well. Put the pressure cooker on high flame and let it come to boil.
  • Throw in some chopped coriander and crushed kasuri methi.
  • Keep it on a medium flame for about five more minutes and add some water if the consistency is too thick for you.
  • Serve it hot with some Roti, or steamed rice on this and enjoy with some salad.

Notes

Dal fry is a traditional dish that is often made with toor dal and arhar dal. However, you can use any dal that you like. Arhar dal is known as split pigeon peas in English. You can also try making this dish with mixed lentils. Regardless of the type of dal you use, a dal fry recipe will help you make a delicious and nutritious meal for any meal.
